The Nigeria Education Repository & Databank (NERD) is committed to inclusive access. Our goal is to meet or exceed internationally recognised guidelines (e.g., WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA) and deliver a smooth experience for keyboard-only users, screen-reader users, and those with low vision, motor, cognitive, or hearing considerations.

We continuously improve semantics (landmarks, headings, labels), colour contrast, focus visibility, and error feedback— and we welcome your suggestions.

Keyboard Navigation

NERD supports full keyboard navigation. Common shortcuts:

  • Tab / Shift + Tab — move focus forward/backward.
  • Enter / Space — activate focused buttons, links, toggles.
  • Esc — close dialogs/menus where applicable.
  • / — focus search on pages that support quick search (e.g., FAQ).

If you find any component that is not reachable or operable with the keyboard, please report it.

Supported Browsers & Assistive Technologies

We test recent versions of:

  • Browsers: Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Windows; Safari on macOS/iOS.
  • Screen readers: NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android).

If you use other tools, we still aim to work well. Please let us know about any issues you encounter.

If you experience an accessibility issue, we want to fix it quickly. Please include:

  • Occasional missing aria-live announcements on some dynamic success/error banners.
  • Rare focus loss after route changes in certain legacy flows.
Planned Improvements
  • Add consistent aria-live regions for async feedback across all forms.
  • Refine focus management after modal and drawer interactions.
  • Expand automated accessibility testing in CI for all new components.
