Impacts of Food Labeling on Consumers and Catering Industry

Abstract

Food is a basic human need that plays a vital role in the sustenance of life. It’s safety.however, has become a major concern to the food industry given that the consumption of contaminated food and water contributes to a myriad of health problems the world over. Literature on related issues by different scholars were reviewed and the survey method was used in arriving at a sample of one hundred and ten (110) respondents for the work. The data collected through questionnaire administered were analyzed using simple percentage, while the chi-square statistical tool was used in testing the hypotheses. The findings of the research revealed that there is a significant relationship between food labeling attributes and consumer buying decision. The findings of this “Impacts of food labeling on Consumers and Catering industry” will be used to make recommendations to marketers to enhance their level of insight about consumers buying decisions. It was recommended that the labeling prices should fully be observed by consumers and catering industry Calabar and the head of NAFDAC Cross River state branch should provide a framework that would drive a laudable catering industry which will eventually lead to hospitality development and that effective security and favorable conditions should be provided by the state government in order to ensure compliance of food labeling in the state.
