Abstract
This research analyses Edo State's Ovia North East Local Government Area to examine the effects of local government administration on socioeconomic development. Four goals served as the study's guidelines: Examine how local government has influenced the socioeconomic growth of Nigerian rural areas using the Ovia North East local government region, Determine the several elements working against the efficiency of local government administration and potential remedies for those issues. Provide suggestions on how to improve the effectiveness of local government as a third level of government. Look for strategies to guarantee the faithful operation of local government. The population of the study is the people who live in the Ovia North East Local Government Area, and the study used a survey design. However, the study used a basic random sampling approach to choose a sample of people from among them. Simple percentages were used to display and analyse the primary data, which was gathered via a questionnaire. Although the results indicate that the function of the Local Government Administration in economic growth was recognised, it is unclear whether or not they actively carried out that responsibility through their policies and initiatives. In order to achieve economic development, it was suggested that the Ovia North East local government administration consciously implement plans and programs aimed at economic development, utilise the natural resources at its disposal, and conduct thorough staff training and development to give its employees the skills they need to be more productive. In addition to addressing issues like insufficient funding, political meddling, and the need to build capacity in order to maximise local government's potential as a catalyst for sustainable development, these programs can assist local government in becoming more effective in the socioeconomic development of the local government areas by delivering infrastructure, healthcare, and education at the local level. This will have an impact on poverty reduction, job creation, and the general well-being of the community.
