Contributions of User Education Strategies to the Use of Information Resources Among Students of Federal College of Education Kano

This study has been undertaken to determine “the contributions of user education strategies to the use of information resources among the students of Federal College of Education Kano”. Five research objectives were formulated. These are; To identify types of user education techniques employed by the Federal College of Education library, To identify the strategies for promoting the information resources and services by Federal College of Education library, To determine the extent to which the user education improved students’ use of information resources, To factors facilitating user education programs in Federal College of Education library and, To identify challenges associated with the method used for the use of library resources. However, the study adopted the survey research design and the population consisted of 2000 NCE regular students registered users of the library for 2022 – 2023 academic session from which a sample size of 322 respondents were selected using simple random sampling technique. The research instrument used for data collection was a self-designed questionnaire. Findings of the study revealed that students have understanding of the concept of user education. The study also finds out that user education programme has positively promote the students use of information resources in the library and their academic performance. The study identified some challenges that hinder the user education as Poor attendance by students, Unconducive nature of lecture halls, insufficient access to computers, Deficient curriculum on introduction to library studies, Attitude of staff to the course.
