Abstract

This work cxamined the various phases of Nigeria Cameroon Relation from 1990- 2007 using Bakassi Peninsula as A Case Study. The boundary dispute between Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon has been the major cause of their mistrust and tension which has remains a source of dispute in the direct bilaterial relationship of Nigeria and Cameroon, this dispute has its root during the colonial era when treaty and Agreement were reach between Chief and European official. This made Obong of Calabar to ignorantly sign his territory into the hand of the British. It also highlighted how the first civilian governments welcome the already inherited colonial problem and how Balewa fail to solve it. The military government ofGeneral Yakubu Gowon and President Ahijo's government in Cameroon sign the maraua (maroawa) agreement which channel the calabar River and a portion of cross River estuary to the Cameroon. Many Nigeria believed that it was mull and void and also how other military government was able to apple force thereby deviating from the old Neighbourliness police of Nigeria foreign policy.
