Content Analysis on Coverage of National Security Threats by Tribune Newspaper in Osun State

Abstract
This study examines the Coverage of National Security Threats in Osun State by the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, with a focus on how such coverage informs public perception and understanding of security issues. The objectives of the study are to determine the frequency of newspaper coverage given to National Security Threats stories by the Nigerian Tribune, to ascertain the level of prominence given to the National Security Threats in the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper. The research employs content analysis as a methodology, assessing the frequency, depth, and framing of reports related to national security. Through a systematic review of published articles, the study identifies trends in the portrayal of security challenges such as terrorism, armed banditry, and communal conflicts: Findings highlight the balance between informative reporting and sensationalism, exploring whether the coverage prioritizes public awareness or contributes to fear and uncertainty. The research also investigates the role of media ethics and the influence of editorial policies on reporting practices. Conclusions drawn from this analysis provide insights into the effectiveness of print media as a tool for public enlightenment and its implications for policy-making and crisis management in Osun State. The study recommends that the media should try to give prominence to sensitive issues of national importance like this by giving them front page placement to draw the attention of readers to the issue. Through this, the people will be able to get information to make proper decisions, Nigeria newspaper should increase their reportage of violent crime in the country through which criminal issues would be brought to the public burner to be described and ridiculed so that public opinion could sweep them away.
