The Military Intervention in Politics and Human Right Abuses in Nigeria Under Abacha Regime 1993-1998

Abstract
ABSTRACT The main focus of this research work tilled "The Military Indention ml ethics and Human Right Abuses in Nigeria Under Abacha Regime 1991-1998" ^as to assess the military regime of Late General Sanmi Abacha and its effects on Nigeria as a nation and Us citizens. Explanatory research design was adopted to explain data collected from a study population of 320. 'J he information collected were presented and analyzed using statistical tables, while the hypotheses were equally tested using chi square. The research findings included: that corruption, political violence, socio-economic crisis, etc, were responsible for military intervention in politics; the autocratic nature of the military had negative impacts on human rights; human rights violation led lo poverty; etc. the research ended with recommendations that: efforts should be made to keep the military out of politics by practicing true democracy, adopting the culture of free and fair elections; government should be open and responsible; the military should be contented with their role of safe-guarding the territorial integrity of the nation, etc.
