Management and Its Impact on the Productivity of Junior Workers in a Public Establishment (a Case Study of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi)

ABSTRACT Personnel management has been in existence since time immemorial; but actually can into existence in Nigeria in this century. It is charged with the responsibility of advising management on issues affecting the human resources in the organization such as recruitment, selection, employment and placement. It also organize training programme for staff and carryout. It also organize training programme for staff and carryout joint consultation with the employees. The focus of this research work is the function of personnel management in the institution of higher learning and its realization of the goals of every business concern, which include leadership, staffing, appraisal, compensation, collective bargaining, among others. The data for this research work were gathered through the use and administration of questionnaire, review of related literature and personal observation. The data collected were analyzed from the analysis. It is clear that the personnel department performs a lot of function towards the growth of any organization. There are however, some bottlenecks in the performance of these important roles. Based on the findings and conclusion, recommendation were made which when applied will improve the status of personnel management, there by contributing in no small measure to the desired progress of educational institution. Some of these recommendation are planning, organizing, staffing, general administration which involves the establishment of objectives and strategies to achieve the objective and a step by step determination of the activities and resources necessary to achieve them. All these should be geared towards ensuring that proper staff selection process is undertaken to ensure that the best candidate are taken from the jobs with particular reference to Auchi Polytechnic Auchi.
