Green Accounting and Performance of Quoted Oil and Gas Firms in Nigeria

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research project was carried out to examine green accounting and performance of quoted non financial firms in Nigeria. The objectives of the study was to determine the effect of green accounting environment related activity on financial performance of listed oil and gas companies in Nigeria and to determine the effect of green accounting employed related activity on financial performance of listed oil and gas companies in Nigeria. In achieving the above objectives, ex-post facto research design was used. The population consists of ten listed oil and gas companies, out of which six (6) companies were used as the sample size for the study. Based on the findings it was revealed that the environment accounting has significant effect on the financial performance of oil and gas companies in Nigeria. It was concluded that the adoption of basic element of green accounting will portray the role of environment in the economy as well as render easier the analysis of macroeconomic questions with the help of green accounting measurer. Hence recommended that the management of oil and gas companies in Nigeria should pay particular attention to employee related activities to enhance the firm’s financial performance of the companies.
