Abstract
Historically, medicinal plants have been employed as therapeutics before modern modifications existed because of its rich phytochemical composition and potential antimicrobial properties. This research work was aimed at determining the mineral content, phytochemical composition and antimicrobial properties of the ethanolic extract of Citrus sinensis against some clinical microorganisms. Standard analytical techniques were used to assess the mineral content and phytochemical screening of the plant, which facilitated the identification of bioactive compounds. The minimum inhibitory concentration assay and the agar well diffusion method were used to assess the antimicrobial qualities. The findings of the extract from Citrus sinensis revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids and phenolics that contribute to its biological functions, including minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron. These findings suggest Citrus sinensis has significant nutritional content and phytochemical components, making it a potential supplementary antibacterial agent.
