Abstract

ABSTRACT millets are a group of highly variable small-seeded grains, they are widely grown around the world as cereal crop. They harbor a lot of fungi from field to post-harvest which are capable of posing health hazards to humans and animals. The objectives of this research study were to isolate and identify different fungi associated with millet at different periods of storage and determine their mycotoxin profile.Millet samples were purchased in owode market offa kwara,Nigeria. The samples was brought to the laboratory in a sterile polythene bag. Isolation of fungi from the millet samples was done with the aid of Potatoe Dextrose Agar (PDA) to prevent bacterial growth. The plates were incubated at room temperature for 48-72 hours and observed. Results:The result indicated the isolation and identification of three fungal,Fusarium spp (28%),Rhiopus stolonifer (58%),and Aspergillus niger (14%) .The most common general isolate were Fusarium spp ,Rhizopus stolonifer and Aspergillus niger .The strains identified were Aspergillus flavus strainwhch ae known to produce aflatoxins and Aspergillus niger whic
