Partisan Politics and School Management Among School Administrators in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the relationship between partisan politics and school management among administrators in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. The sub-variables of this study were student management, staff management, school facilities (school plants) management and host community as dependent variables and partisan politics as independent variable were reviewed both conceptually and empirically. The study was conducted in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom state. The Correlational research design was used for the study. The population of the study consisted of all the forty eight (48) secondary school administrators (twelve principals and thirty six vice principals) in the twelve public secondary schools. Purposive random sampling was used to select all the forty eight (48) secondary school administrators (twelve principals and thirty six vice principals) for this study. Data was collected using a researcher-developed instrument named, “Partisan Politics and School Administration Questionnaire (PPSAQ)". PPSAQ was subjected to face validity by three lecturers. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was .79, determined using Cronbach’s alpha reliability technique. Data analysis was done using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistics. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between partisan politics and student management, school facilities (school plants) management, host community Secondary School administrators and Secondary School administrators in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. It was further revealed that partisan politics does not significantly relates with staff management Secondary School administrators. Recommendations were made among others that School administrators should engaged in professional development programmes so as to equip them with the skills necessary to manage the complexities of partisan politics.
