Challenges of Using Instructional Materials in the Teaching and Learning of Business Studies in Selected Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State

Abstract
This study assesses the challenges of the using instructional materials teaching and learning of business studies in selected secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo State. Three research questions were asked and answered during the study using frequencies and percentages. The survey research design was adopted for this study; this is because the data is collected from a sample population with specific characteristics. The population of the study comprised of students from senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Benin City, Edo State. Out of this population three hundred and fifty (350) Business studies students that were used as sample was selected from the senior secondary school for the study; using randomly sampling technique. The instrument used to collect data for the study was fifteen items self-structured questionnaire. The instrument for the data collection was personally administered by the researcher to the respondents. The researcher explained to the respondents how to indicate their views on each item. On the basis of the findings made in the study, it was concluded that the teaching of Business Studies in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area is hindered by a combination of insufficient instructional materials, technical difficulties, and financial constraints. While progress has been made in the provision of certain resources like computers and internet access, significant gaps remain in ensuring equitable access to instructional aids and their effective utilization in classrooms. This study concludes that addressing these challenges is critical to improving the quality of Business Studies education. By providing adequate funding, upgrading instructional facilities, and empowering teachers with the necessary skills and support, the teaching and learning process can be significantly enhanced. The researcher recommends that the government and school authorities should allocate adequate and timely budgets for the procurement of instructional materials also the researcher recommend that designated Business Studies laboratories or resource centers should be set up in schools. These centers should be equipped with modern teaching aids to facilitate practical lessons and enhance the learning experience.
