Challenges and Prospects of Journalism Practices in the Post Era of Freedom of Information Act (foia)in Osun State

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to examine the Challenges and Prospects of Journalism Practices in the Post Era of Freedom of Information Act (FoIA)in Osun State. Using Libertarian Press Theory. Social Responsibility Theory, and Agenda Setting Theory. The sample size for the study was 150 using multi-stage sampling techniques as the sample procedure; the study obtained data through primary source of information with a structured questionnaire. The data analysts was done using statistical tools such as simple percentage. The basis of the findings shows that the level of awareness of Freedom of Information Act (FolA) among fournalists in Osun State is very high. The study also shows that the journalists in Osun State use Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) in the discharge of their professional duties to high extent. The study shows that the Post Freedom of Information Act (FoLA) is very effective among the journalists in Osun State. The study also shows that Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) affects the journalists in Osun State positively. The study revealed that the journalists use Freedom of Information Act in Osun State daily. The findings also revealed that failure to adhere to canon of journalism, lack of openness of news source, laziness on the part of reporter and lack of proper training of journalists are the challenges facing journalists in the implementation of Freedom of Information Act (FolA) in Osun State are the challenges facing journalists in the implementation of Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) in Osun State. Based on the findings, the study concludes failure to adhere to canon of journalism, lack of openness of news source, laziness on the part of reporter, and lack of proper training of journalists are the challenges facing journalists in the implementation of Freedom of Information Act (FolA) in Osun State. Subsequently, recommendations were made that the use of the Fol Act should not be left in the hands of journalists and media practitioners alone. Perhaps, this is the reason for the misconception that the act is a media act that is meant for journalists alone.
