Abstract

This research work aim to investigate the roles of traditional rulers in maintaining peace and harmony in Ekiti State. Traditional rulers have played a significant role in maintaining peace and harmony in Nigerian societies, including Ekiti State. This study examines the roles of traditional rulers in promoting peace and harmony in Ekiti State, with a focus on their contributions to conflict resolution, community development, and social cohesion. Using a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions, this research reveals that traditional rulers in Ekiti State have been instrumental in resolving conflicts, promoting community development, and fostering social harmony. The study highlights the importance of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and stability in Nigerian societies and recommends that government and other stakeholders collaborate with traditional rulers to promote peace and development in Ekiti State. Based on the findings the following recommendations are raised The government should provide financial support to traditional rulers to enable them to carry out their peace building initiatives effectively. The government should establish training programs to enhance the peace building skills of traditional rulers.
