Emotional Intelligence of Civic Education Teachers, and Academic Performance of Civic Education Students. a Case Study of Opke Local Government Area of Delta State

The study was designed to determine the relationship between Emotional intelligence of Civic Education Teachers and Academic Performance of students in Senior Secondary Schools in Delta State, Nigeria. In order to investigate the problem, four (4) research questions and f0ur (4) research hypotheses wee formulated. The main objective of the study was to find out if there would be a positive relationship between, Emotional intelligence of Civic Education Teachers and Academic Performance of Students in Senior Secondary Schools in the study area. Gap in literature was established after a review of related literature, The investigation is hinged on behavioral theory propounded by Ivan Pavlov {1927}.It stipulates that learning occurs when learners are exposed to stimulus to encourage learners reaction and produce positive response. Learning can be facilitated through discussion, organized interactive sessions and provide constructive proposes that learning can be constructed by employing the services of well adapted Civic education teachers. The study utilized the survey research design. The design was employed to generate data for a sampled population consisting of 200 students and 40 teachers in Senior Secondary Schools across the three senatorial districts. The instruments of the study were the questionnaire and Civic Education Students examination score and grades for basic eight {8}, 2023/2024 academic session were used to generate data for the study. The generated data were subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistics. The study found that employing the services of teachers that emotional intelligence to the profession will enhance learning and improved Academic Performance of Students in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
