The Effect of E-Learning on Academic Performance of Senior Secondary School Students in Computer Studies in Uruan Local Government Area

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aimed at investigating the effect of e-learning on academic performance of senior secondary school student in computer studies in Uruan Local Government Area. To guide the study, five research purposes, five research questions and four research hypotheses were formulated. Related literatures were reviewed. The design adopted for this study was Quasi-experimental design. The population of the study was 1000 SSS2 computer studies students in Uruan Local Government Area. The sample size of 100 from five secondary schools was used. Computer Studies Achievement test designed by the researcher and validated by experts. The reliability of the instrument was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The data was collected and analyzed using mean and standard deviation while related t-test statistics was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The instrument were pilot tested in Atakpo Community Secondary School, Mbiaya Uruan, using 30 students. The reliability coefficient was 0.78 for the test instrument respectively. The finding of the study revealed that, the use of e-learning platform like Moodle, Google classroom, D2L (Desire2Learn), WIZIQ and Sakai in teaching computer studies have a positive effect on academic performance of the student than those taught using conventional teaching method. There was significant difference between the mean score of senior secondary school students taught computer studies using Moodle, Google classroom, D2L (Desire2Learn), WIZIQ and Sakai e-learning platform and those taught using conventional teaching method. Thus, it is recommended among others, that state governments or the Ministries of Education and Professional association should organize workshop, seminars and conferences to train teachers and student on the use of e-learning platforms.
