Abstract
Cinematography in documentary film plays a crucial role in capturing and conveying truth and reality. However, there is a lack of comprehensive studies, many existing studies on cinematography in documentaries tend to focus on general visual styles and storytelling techniques without delving deeply into how advanced technologies and innovative visual approaches are used to capture authenticity and truth. This study therefore aim to provide a comprehensive analysis of advanced cinematography techniques in NigeriaforWildlife and Nigeria Slum on Water: Makoko as case of study. This study adopts the content analysis method of research. The data gathered from the films serve as the primary source of information, while books, textbooks, journals, articles, and relevant internet materials form the secondary sources. This study reveals that camera languages were employed in NigeriaforWildlife and Nigeria Slum on Water: Makoko to document real-life events, with a focus on educational impact, social change, and preserving the authenticity of cultural history and heritage. The study concludes that documentary film, as an essential genre, has long been regarded as a powerful medium for capturing truth and reality, serving multiple important functions in society. The study recommends that filmmakers should focus on innovative cinematography techniques to enhance storytelling, engage viewers emotionally and intellectually, and represent subjects fairly while avoiding bias to reveal the originality of their creative work.
