Web-Based Student Information Management System for Computer Science Department

This project focused on eliminating data redundancy and student record loss as well as enhancing timely result publication through a web-based management system. The initiative aimed to develop a web-based management system for Rhema University Computer Science students. Structured System Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM) was employed. This methodology facilitated a comprehensive framework, ensuring that each phase from feasibility study to physical design was meticulously planned and executed. Techniques such as logical data modeling, data flow modeling, and entity behavior modeling were utilized to create an intuitive and efficient system architecture. The work was implemented using HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), JavaScript (JS), MySQL and Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) programming languages were used on the Visual Studio Code (VS Code) Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Logical data modeling helped classify data into entities and relationships, data flow modeling tracked the movement of information through processes and data stores, and entity behavior modeling documented the events influencing each entity. The result showed that the developed system displayed accurate and reliable data and information of Rhema University students’ record and as well allowed online system of fees payment. The resultant web-based management system could significantly reduce the use of paper for documentation and improve information transmission, secure student information from piracy and aid dissemination of information within the institution. It is recommended to Rhema University especially Computer Science department to help improve digitalization of data.
