Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of social and mass media on political communication and education in Osun 2022 governorship election. Communication is a strand that binds human society together. Politics without communication will be uninteresting and uncoordinated. This research therefore attempts to examine the effect of social and mass media on political communication and education. The research adopts the document analysis and questionnaire to generate data. The population of the study comprises all 12 wards in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State. The sample of this study consisted of fifteen (15) respondents from each ward making one hundred and eighty (180) respondents drawn from twelve wards. The data collect for this research were analyzed through the use of questionnaire. Findings revealed that the potentialities and challenges of social and mass media use in politics were demonstrated in the 2022 gubernatorial election in the state. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the Nigerian government should formulate a proactive regulation to control the abuse of social and mass media in the country. Also, the entire process of election in Nigeria should to be made simple and people- friendly.
