Relationship Between Parenting Styles and Social Adjustment Among Secondary School Students in Nnewi Education Zone of Anambra State

This study accessed the Relationship between parenting styles and social adjustment among secondary school students in Nnewi Education zone in Anambra State.Four research questions guided the study.Correlational research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consists of all 3,197 students in the 50 public secondary schools.The sample size was 405 SS2 students sampled using multi-stage sampling technique.The instrument for data collection was an already made standardized instrument for parenting style four factor questionnaire (PSFFQ)and Fudah social adjustment scale.It was validated by two lecturers from the department of Guidance and Counseling of the Faculty of Education,all from Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Awka.The questionnaire had to be validated because I changed the tick options and put the one used in the department and faculty.Pearson product moment correlation coefficient was used to analyze data in respect of the research questions. The study revealed,that authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles have an impact on the social adjustment of secondary school students. However, uninvolved and permissive parenting styles do not seem to have a significant effect on social adjustment in the context of the study conducted in the Nnewi Education zone of Anambra State. The study recommended promoting authoritative parenting, raising awareness about parenting styles, providing support for parents, fostering a collaborative approach between parents and educators, and encouraging parental involvement in order to enhance students' social adju
