Abstract

Today, the Nigeria media exist in every tenuous position. In the word of Edward (1993), “the jeremiad of compliant by press has fallen on deaf ears of government who’s alert and watchful eyes are permanently directed on what the press published with eager hands to send some medial operations”. Quoting Aiyetan (2002) and Galadima (2003) "Public Office holders believe they can do anything and get away with it as long as they can control media or get a good journalist to do the dirty job of lying with facts." Odumegwu Ojukwu also observed thus: when a public office holder docs something outlandish, the media sing his praises instead of condemning him and concentrating on more important national or state issues. (Cited by Galadima, 2003).
