Effects of Entrepreneurs’ Managerial Behaviours on Small and Medium Enterprises’ Performance in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria

Abstract

The research study investigated effects of entrpreneurs managerial behaviour on Small and medium enterprises performance in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined effects of goal clarity and delegation of duties, salary structure and reward and recognition on performance of small businesses in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Survey research method was employed with a structured close ended questionnaire administered to the respondents. Census sampling technique was used to select the entire 82 SMEs’ owners/managers used for the study. Simple percentage and regression were adopted for the analysis of data collected. The results indicate that goal clarity and delegation of duties have significant and positive effect on performance of small businesses in AdoEkiti. Findings also revealed that salary structure significantly and positively affect performance of small businesses in Ado-Ekiti. In addition, reward and recognition are positively correlated with performance of small businesses in Ado-Ekiti. The study concluded that owners’ managerial behaviour significantly affect performance of small businesses generally. The study however recommends that manager delegate duties and ensure that the goals are well stated in clear terms for the employee to understand.
