Influence of Media Campaign on Awareness and Control of Erosion in Osun State

This research work is centered on Influence of Media Campaign on Awareness and Control of Brosion in Osun. This study was guided by the following objectives; to determine whether the mass media disseminate information on awareness and control of erosion in Osun State, to examine the effort of the mass media in educating the residents of Osun state on environmental development; to know the effects of mass media messages on the fight against erosion in Osun State; to determine the extent to which the residents of Osun state are exposed to media campaigns on erosion control in the state; to assess the attitudes of residents of Osun state toward the mass media messages on erosion control in the state. Literature materials from erudite scholars were reviewed and analyzed. The theories used for this project are; Theory of Planned Behaviour, and Social Responsibilities Theory, In getting the response from the respondents, questionnaire was employ as the primary source of data. The questionnaire is divided into two sections. Section contained questions aimed at knowing the respondents bio-data while Section B contained research questions aimed at achieving the research objectives. To know this, 400 copies of questionnaires was administered among residents of 3 most populated local governments areas across the 3 senatorial district in Osun state, West; Iwo local government, Osun East; Ife North local government, and Osun Central; Osogbo local government to critically examine the topic 390 copies were returned for data analysis and presentation of table in simple percentage. The study concluded that internet has influenced the news gathering and reporting in journalism, the internet influenced the readership and listenership among media audience to fair extent. Majority of the respondent said internet is very accessible in news gathering and reporting among journalists in Osun state while study noted that the usage of the internet improved efficiency of news gathering and reporting in fast information gathering. It is recommended that policy should be made and implemented on teaching environmental studies in basic schools to start the sensitization process regarding flooding management and prevention and Efforts should be put in place by the media in coordinating rescue mission during natural disasters Keywords: Influence, Media, Campaign, Awareness, Control, Erosion
