Abstract

ABSTRACT
Chlamydia trachomatis is a major public health concern, causing significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study aimed to detect Chlamydia infection among patients attending Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH) Owerri. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining retrospective and prospective components. The retrospective study analyzed hospital records from 2022 to 2024, while the prospective study involved testing 20 clinical specimens( 11 Endocervical swab sample from female patients and 9 Urine sample from male patients). Results showed a fluctuating trend in Chlamydia cases over the three-year period, with females consistently accounting for the majority of cases (75-87.5%). A prospective study involving 20 clinical specimens found no positive cases of Chlamydia trachomatis. This study highlights the importance of ongoing surveillance and monitoring of Chlamydia cases to inform public health interventions and prevention strategies.
