Effect of Organization Reward Practices on Employee Commitment:a Case Study of University of Cross River State, Calabar Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract

The study examined effect of organization reward practices on employee commitment in
University of Cross River State. It was aimed at finding out if fringe benefits, job training and
development, salary raise and allowance and recognition programmes have effect on employee
commitment in University of Cross River State. To achieve these objectives, the research made
use of the survey research design, with a sample size of 279 respondents. The data collected were
presented in a table using simple percentage and analyzed by the use of the multiple regression
models.Based on the analysis, the study found out that job training and development have
significant effect on employee commitment in University of Cross River State; that salary raise
and allowance have significant effect on employee commitment in University of Cross River State;
specifically, that recognition programmes have significant effect on employee commitment in
University of Cross River State.In the light of the above, the study recommended that the
management of Unicross as a matter of deliberate policy should encourage rewards practice to
enhance performance and promote self-fulfillment and actualization of employees
