Abstract
This study examines intergovernmental relations and local government performance in Nigeria from 2015-2020. It overviews how state-local joint accounts contribute to infrastructural deficits in rural areas and how federal/state interference undermines local officials’ functions. Using secondary data, structural-functional theory, and qualitative analysis, it argues local government interacts with other levels. Recommendations include clear constitutional status, discarding joint accounts, elections for leaders, local control over officials, reduced interference, and direct federation allocations.
