Abstract
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate effectiveness in information and communication technologies utilization and students’ academic records management in the University of Calabar. For this purpose to be achieved, four null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. A detailed literature review was carried out in line with all the sub-variables of the study. The research design used for the study was survey research design. The population of this study consisted of all undergraduate students of the Faculty of Vocational and Science Education. Stratified random sampling technique was adopted to select the three departments in the faculty while systematic random sampling technique was adopted to select the two hundred and eighty seven (287) respondents used for the study. A structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The instrument was duly validated by relevant authorities. To test the hypotheses formulated for the study, Pearson product moment correlation statistical tool was employed for data analysis. The result that was obtained from analysis of data and testing of hypotheses in the study revealed that there was a significant relationship between effectiveness of utilization of information and communication technologies on online course registration, secured access to examination scores, verification/authentication of students’ identity. The finding also revealed that effectiveness of ICT utilization does not significantly relate with transcript accessibility among students of the University of Calabar. Based on these findings it was recommended among others that students of the University of Calabar should continue to utilize information and communications for the online course registration in order to manage their academic records effectively.
