Abstract
Diabetes mellitus and bacterial infections remain major global health challenges, prompting the search for affordable therapeutic alternatives with minimal side effects. Moringa oleifera, a medicinal plant widely used in tropical regions, contains phytochemical compounds with proven pharmacological benefits. This study evaluated the antibacterial activity of aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera seeds and its effect on alloxan-induced hyperglycemia in albino rats. The seeds were processed and extracted using aqueous solvents, after which antibacterial activity was assessed against selected bacterial isolates using standard microbiological methods. Hyperglycemia was induced in albino rats using alloxan monohydrate, followed by administration of the seed extract for a stipulated period. Results revealed significant antibacterial activity evidenced by clear zones of inhibition, as well as a considerable reduction in blood glucose levels among treated rats when compared to the diabetic control group. The findings suggest that Moringa oleifera seeds possess both promising antimicrobial and antihyperglycemic properties. Further studies are recommended to determine dosage optimization, toxicity profile, and clinical applicability.
