Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study examined the development of hybrid models for enhancing Business Education students' performances in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Specifically, the study investigated the current teaching methods employed in Business Education programs, the current performance of Business Education students, the technological infrastructure needed for implementing hybrid learning models, the key components necessary for its development that enhance Business Education students' performance, the appropriate hybrid models and the impact of the developed hybrid models on Business Education students' academic performance and skill acquisition in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The descriptive research design of the survey type was used in this study. The population for the study comprised of all 510 Business Education students in tertiary institutions in Ekiti State which consisted of Ekiti State University , Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti and Federal University Oye-Ekiti. The sample was determined by Taro Yamane formular and 200 respondents were selected using simple random sampling technique. A self-designed questionnaire titled “Development of Hybrid Models and Business Education Students' Performances Questionnaire (HMBESPQ)” was the instrument used for the study. The reliability of the instrument was determined through test-retest method, which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.82 and this was adjudged reliable. The data collected through the instruments was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that traditional teaching methods dominate Business Education programs in Nigerian tertiary institutions, students demonstrate strong theoretical knowledge and satisfactory academic performance, online resource libraries, interactive modules and digital assessment tools are key components for effective hybrid learning. The combined online and in-person instruction model and digital simulations were highly rated as appropriate hybrid approaches. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that institutions should develop a structured program for integrating industry professionals into the curriculum through regular guest lectures, workshops, and mentoring programs, there should be skills development framework that balances theoretical knowledge with practical applications and implementation of a phased approach to technology integration, starting with essential tools and gradually expanding based on institutional capacity;
