Abstract
ABSTRACT
Family can be defined as a group of people that are closely related either by blood, marriage, law, custom or adoption. Anyakoha (2015) stated that, a family is a group of persons living together and united by ties of marriage. Positive family life often support healthy development, but challenging family life - such as inconsistent parenting, emotional neglect, and high conflict – can lead to lasting issues like poor self-images, anxiety. Hence, the problem of this study is therefore to investigate the influence of family life on children's emotional and social well-being in Ilorin South L.G.A Kwara State. Seven (7) research questions were raised to provide guidance for the study and three (3) null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The total population for the study was (3,313) three thousand, three hundred and thirteen children between the age of 2-10 years old. Purposive sampling techniques were used to select 200 respondents which represent 6.04% of the total population. The respondents were selected at random from Ilorin South local government area, Kwara State. Children's well-being questionnaire was the research instrument that was used for data collection for the study. Research question 1-7 were analyzed using frequency, percentage (%), mean (standard deviation and cross tabulation). The null hypotheses formulated for the study were tested with inferential statistics such as analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson product moment correlation (PPMC) and T-test. All null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significant of which the null hypothesis was either accepted or rejected. The findings revealed that In terms of parenting style, the most significant influences on children’s social skills in Ilorin South Local Government Area are parental warmth and responsiveness, discipline style, and parental involvement in social activities. In conclusion, The results showed that Family-based interventions will not significantly influence children’s emotional and social well-being Since p = 0.000 < 0.05, the result is statistically significant. It was recommended that families should prioritize quality time together and engage in open communication.
