Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project titled DSTV Disney Junior cartoon channel and children’s academic performances in kingdom stars nursery and primary school in Ikot Ekpene. The following formed the objective of the study. To find out whether the children of kingdom stars nursery and primary school watch DSTV Disney Junior cartoon channel, to find out the extent to which the children of kingdom stars nursery and primary school watch DSTV Disney junior carton channel, to ascertain the extent to which DSTV Disney junior cartoon channel has help in academic performances in kingdom stars nursery and primary school, to examined the impact of DSTV Disney junior cartoon channel in children’s academic performances in kingdom stars nursery and primary school. In the cause of this study census technique was used to select a sample size of 98 for use in the study. Survey research method was adopted to obtain the relevant information in the area. A total number of 98 questionnaire were given out to respondent, all 98 copies were retrieved and found useful for the analysis. Data collected were analysed using frequency and simple percentages, findings revealed that the impact of DSTV Disney junior cartoon channel in kingdom stars nursery and primary school is that its helps the kids to get an early start on learning and also enhance creativity amongst them, it also revealed that its teaches problem solving skill, furthermore, findings also revealed that DSTV Disney Junior cartoon channel helps in language development of the children of kingdom stars nursery and primary school. Hence, the following recommendations were made for the study. Children should be advised to watch more of educative cartoons which will help them to get an early start on learning, Television programmed meant for children should be conceptualized, produced and broadcast with emphasis to learning and culture, Parents and guardians should monitor and regulate the types of programmed that children watches to mitigate the negative impact of cartoon channel such violence etc, There should also be some enlightenment programs to educate parents and guardians on the need to monitor what kinds of cartoon programs the children watch in order to ensure their appropriateness, The national broadcasting commission should enhances its enforcement functions, this will ensure that our children watch more of educative content television programmed.
