Assessing the Liabilities of Hotel on Guest Safety and Valuable

ABSTRACT
The safety and security of hotel guests is a paramount concern in the hospitality industry, both for the protection of individuals and for mitigating potential legal risks for hotel operators. This study aim to assess the liability of hotels in relation to guest safety and the protection of their valuables. Specifically, the research focuses on evaluating the hotel's current policies and procedures. concerning guest safety and security, including the measures taken to safeguard valuables. The project adopted survey research design method, the area of this study covers hospitality industries in Kaduna south, six hotels from Kaduna Metropolis with the population of 150 people. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. Simple random sampling technique was retrieved with 20 not returned. The study also examines the hotel's compliance with relevant laws used, 10% of the population was adopted with 150 questionnaires were administered and 130 were regulations, and industry standards that govern guest protection, identifying potential-gaps or hotels must fulfill to ensure guest safety, areas for improvement. Furthermore, the legal obligations such as the duty of care, are explored in depth. The study investigates the effectiveness of staff training and awareness programs aimed at ensuring all hotel personnel are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to handle safety-related concerns effectively. In conclusion, the assessment of a hotel's liabilities related to guest safety and the protection of valuables reveals that while the hotel has generally implemented effective safety measures, there are several areas for improvement. Guests largely agree that policies such as advising the use of safes and securing access to restricted areas are effective in safeguarding, in safeguarding personal belongings and ensuring a secure environment. It recommended that the hotel should prioritize improving security in public areas, such as hallways, parking lots, and entrances, by investing in brighter, energy-efficient lighting and increasing the presence of security personnel or surveillance cameras, this will not only help meet guest expectations for safety but also minimize potential security-related incidents and the associated legal risks and the hotel should enhance how safety protocols are communicated to guests, particularly during check-in.
