Abstract

This research examines the effectiveness of OSBC Radio in addressing the pervasive issue of street hawking within the Osogbo metropolis of Nigeria. Street hawking driven by socio-economic disparities and reinforced by traditional custom poses significant threats to children's education, health and overall well-being. The study investigates The Role of OSBC Radio in mitigating these adverse effects, focusing on public compliance with media messages. The influence of media on public perspection and the challenge faced by media campaign. Social cognitive theory, Agenda setting theory, Utilizing a survey research design, the study collected data through questionnaire and interview, engaging a diverse yet predominantly youthful and male demographics. According to the population of the study used on this research among the people of Osogbo is approximately 200,000 people and the size used is 150 Finding indicate substantial public engagement with OSBC Radio. Suggesting it's potential in raising awareness and shaping attitudes toward street hawking. However, challenges such as poor programming, funding constraints and regulatory issues hinder the effectiveness of these media intervention. The research underscores the necessity for improved programming, increased financial support, and robust regulatory measure to enhance the impact of OSBC Radio. Additionally, tailored messaging and collaborative efforts among stakeholders holder are recommended to foster a comprehensive approach to reducing street hawking. His study highlights OSBC Radio's pivotal role as a catalyst for social change. Advocating for strategic enhancement to optimize media-driven intervention against street hawking in Osogbo.
