Abstract
Transportation management plays a pivotal role in the operational and financial performance of manufacturing firms, particularly in the foods and beverages, where timely delivery is critical. This study investigates the impact of transportation management on the performance of Seven-Up Bottling Company Ltd., a leading soft drink manufacturer in Nigeria. Drawing on the Resource-Based View and Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) frameworks, the research explores how effective transportation practices influence supply chain efficiency, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction. Using a case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, company records, and secondary sources to examine Seven-Up’s transportation strategies, including fleet management, route optimization, and technology adoption. The data was presented in a tabular form and analyzed using frequency distribution table, percentage and regression as well as Pearson Moment Correlation Analysis to express the results of the analysis that the researcher can form an option thereafter. Three hundred and eighty-four (384) copies of the questionnaire were administered, however only three hundred and two (302) were duly filled and returned for the analysis, the demographic data of the respondents were answered using descriptive statistics of frequency counts. This revealed that the responses received were factual following the sampled population. The study concludes that transportation management plays a critical role in enhancing the performance of the food and beverages industry. Effective control of transportation costs contributes directly to increased profitability by reducing operational expenses and improving cost-efficiency. The availability of skilled personnel ensures accurate scheduling, timely deliveries, and strategic decision-making, all of which are essential for supply chain optimization and maintaining product quality and safety standards. Meanwhile, transportation delays have a significant negative impact, disrupting production scheduling, increasing waste, and reducing customer satisfaction. Overall, efficient transportation management is fundamental to achieving operational excellence, improving responsiveness, and sustaining competitiveness in the dynamic food and beverages sector.
