Impact of Motivation on the Performance of Workers' in Irrua Teaching Hospital, Edo State

ABSTRACT
This study examined impact of motivation on the performance of workers in Irrua Teaching Hospital, Edo State. In the course of the study, relevant literature's were reviewed in order to present the views of various scholars and researchers on the topic. The population of the study was 212 made up of some workers in selected departments in Irrua Teaching Hospital, Edo State. The simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 106 respondents while 102 finally participated in the study. The research design used for the study was the Survey research design by which the researcher administered questionnaires to produce facts from the study participants and simple percentage method was adopted for the data analysis. The report shows that management uses a variety of methods for employee incentives, including performance reviews, pay raises, promotions, effective leadership, career advancement, awards and recognition’s. The study revealed, among others, that motivation promotes workers job effectiveness, and motivation encourages workers to individually decide to work overtime in an organization as they take the office as a second home. The researcher recommended, among others that top management need to strategically identify the motivational incentives that lead to high performance among workers in the organization; and should ensure that workers are accommodated in a conducive working environment because it is a key element in boosting performance and achieving corporate objectives.
