Abstract
This study investigates the influence of environment on children's acquisition of English as a second language in Calabar, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with a sample size of 30 participants consisting of children aged 4-6, their parents, and teachers. The findings showed that social interactions with peers and family members, as well as exposure to different cultural backgrounds, play a significant role in shaping language acquisition. The study also revealed that parental involvement in children's language learning is crucial in facilitating language acquisition. The study also recommends that the curriculum should be revised to include more opportunities for children to interact with peers and family members who speak the target language, and that additional resources and support should be provided for children who are struggling with language acquisition. Overall, the study provides valuable insights into the environmental variables that influence children's acquisition of a second language and suggests practical strategies for improving language acquisition outc
