Abstract
This study examined pay and job satisfaction as predictor of organisational commitment among bank workers in Awka metropolis. The participants comprised of 52 males and 65 females. Their age ranged from 23 to 46 years, with the mean of 34.35 and standard deviation of 6.01. A correlation design was utilized. 117 bank workers in Awka Metropolis, Anambra state were used. Standardized report measure of Pay Satisfaction Questionnaire, Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and Organisational Commitment Scale were used for collecting data from participants while a Multi Linear Regression analysis was used for testing the research hypotheses via the IBM Statistical package for Social Sciences version 21. The result of the study indicated that pay satisfaction does not predict organisational commitment (β = -.007, p = .93), and job satisfaction predicts organisational commitment ( β = .55, p = .00). The results highlighted the insignificance of pay satisfaction in attenuating and increasing organisational commitment in Awka metropolis, Anambra State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that proper orientation and workshop be designed to aid better understanding of the need for job satisfaction and maximum attention on environmental factors rather than pay satisfaction such as the value, beliefs and norms of the workers that can influence their behaviour and commitment to their organisation.
