Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the effects of partially replacing fine aggregate with Finely Milled Palm
Kernel Shell (FMPKS) on the compressive strength of concrete. Concrete mixes were prepared
with 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% FMPKS replacement levels and tested for compressive strength
at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days of curing. The results indicate a progressive reduction in compressive
strength with increasing FMPKS content, attributed to the lower density and weaker
mechanical properties of FMPKS compared to conventional aggregates. Despite these
reductions, all mixes showed strength improvement with curing time, demonstrating the
potential for material consolidation. The 10% replacement level exhibited minimal strength
loss, suggesting its suitability for non-structural applications. The findings highlight the
potential of FMPKS as a sustainable alternative to fine aggregate, particularly for eco-friendly
construction practices. Recommendations for further research and practical applications are
provided.
