Abstract
Social detachment and alienation are the effects of negative relationships in Purple Hibiscus and Waiting for an Angel, novels by Adichie and Habila. How self-perception affects characters of these novels is interrogated. The study hinges of Karen Horney’s psycho-analysis postulations to uncover the human mind and his manifestations in the selected novels. Findings from the study shows that, the unstable personalities of major characters are the coping mechanism which serves as the link between them and the hostilities in society.
