Abstract
ABSTRACT
It has theoretical and realistic meanings to study the climate change's impacts on hydrology and water resources, so as to understand and solve some problems in hydrology and water resources, such as plan management, operation management, environmental protection, ecological balance and so on. And hydrology and water resource system has close relationship with industry, agriculture, city development and economic fields. This study reviews the impact of climate change in Ilobu, Irepodun local government Osun State. in the course of this project metrological data was collected for the period of 5 years (2018-2023) from the Nigerian metrological agency and the result was analyzed, based on the result collected. It was deducted that the maximum and minimum temperature has great impact in the total amount of rain fall for each year. The rise in maximum temperatures due to climate change can increase evaporation rates, leading to a reduction in groundwater recharge. This reduction in recharge can lead to a decline in groundwater levels and availability. Additionally, higher temperatures can also increase water demand for irrigation, agriculture, and other purposes, further straining groundwater resources. One of the key recommendations to mitigate the impact of climate change on groundwater resources in Ilobu is to promote sustainable water management practices. This can be achieved through the implementation of water conservation techniques such rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge systems. Additionally, controlling pollution and enforcing proper waste management practices can help prevent the contamination of groundwater sources.
