Principal's Decision Making Parctices and Teacher's Job Performance in Ikom Local Government Area, Cross River State - Nigeria

Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study was designed to examine principal's decision making practices and teacher's job performance in Ikom L.G.A of Cross River State. Four null hypothesis were formulated and tested at 0.5 level of significance. Survey research design was adopted for the study. Population of the study comprised all the principals in the twenty-one (21) public secondary schools in Ikom L.G.A. Data were collected using Principal's Decision Making Practices Questionnaire (PDMPQ) and Teacher's Job Performance Scale (TJPS). Results showed a significant positive relationship between principal's decision making practices and teacher's job performance. Specifically, participatory decision making and transparent decision making practices were found to enhance teacher's job performance. The study where structured instruments titled: Principal's Decision Making Practices Questionnaire(PDPQ) and Teacher's Job Performance Questionnaire (TJPQ) were used for data collection. Test of both instruments were conducted using test-retest method and we're considered reliable at 0.65 and 0.69 values. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product moment coefficient correlation statistics at .05 level of significance. Result of the analysis revealed that principals participatory and bureaucratic decision making relates significantly to teacher’s job performance and the result revealed that principal's pseudo-p articulatory and autocratic decision-making does not significantly relate to teachers job performance. Based on the findings it is recommended that principals should not exclude teachers in decision making process.
