Abstract
This study investigate the effect of domestic stress and academic performance of married students in Northwest University Kano. Problems were stated and three question guided the research. The population used on this work comprises five hundred and ninety one (591) married students from which a total number of one hundred and ninety six (196) responded were selected using stratified sampling techniques. The instrument used for collecting data in this research work is questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive analysis because the data would be expressed quantitatively on the basis of number of persons whose responses are tabulated under several categories of the questions. Simple percentage was used in interpreting the research questions. This research has clearly shows that domestic stress has a negative effect on academic performance of married-women-student particularly in the area where the research is conducted. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: the University should make available sick benefit and provision for day-care centers for female with pre-school child/children. Also, husband should give much moral and material support by lessening their wives demands provision of financial assistance and hiring if domestic helps to cater for the housework and children. In addition, the school should make the following adjustments: reduction of lecture hours, adjustment of 8:00am lectures and late evening lectures. Weekend lectures should also be remove or reduced, lecturers should always endeavor to give them listening ear in terms of taking permission or giving excuses or lodging complains. They should also temper justice with mercy. Finally, similar studies need to be conducted to cover all university students in Nigeria and another study should also be conducted on the married-male-students.
