Abstract
The study examines the 'Corporate Social Responsibility and Financial Performance of Listed
Banks in Nigeria. The ex-post facto design was adopted in this study. The study covers period of
ten years (2012-2021). A sample of (4) commercial banks listed on Nigeria Stock Exchange were
selected amongst the population 0f 14 commercial banks. In order to properly guide the study,
theoretical insights were drawn from stakeholder theory, legitimacy theory, triple bottom line
theory. Data were collected on commercial banks' social responsibility cost, data and financial
performance which is Earnings per share (EPS), Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity
(ROE). Corporate social responsibility has no significant effect on the earnings per share, return
on assets and return on equity of the listed commercial banks in Nigeria. The study concludes
that corporate social responsibility of banks is capable of influencing the financial performance
of firms within the banking industry. The study therefore recommends that corporate social
responsibility costs should also be pursued systemically and well supervised as it is capable of
explaining the variations that occur in the financial performance of the banks.
