Abstract
This project research is designed to determine the Effects of Moringa Leave extract on Bacteria and Fungi obtained from Naira notes. Bacteria and fungi were isolated and identified based on standard techniques. To verify the therapeutic potential of the leaf extracts of the Moringa olifera leave for medicinal purpose. The leave extract was screened for antibacterial and antifungal effects against some isolates extracted from naira notes which includes; (Salmonella typhi, Candida Albicans, Shigella flexneri and Escherichia coli). Agar well diffusion method was used to check the antibacterial and antifungal activity of the Moringa olifera leave extract. The results of the clear zone inhibition diameter and mean growth inhibition percentages showed the antibacterial activity of aqueous Moringa leaves extract against bacterial isolates. The results indicated that, the effect of the tested extract showed variable inhibition zones ranging from 23.5 ± 0.45 to 12.5 ± 0.50 mm according to the type of bacteria. The mean growth inhibition percentages were 85.9 ± 0.42 to 65.3 ± 0.34 against all tested bacteria. Moringa extract, showed low inhibition effect on growth of P. aeruginosa while had high antibacterial activity against B. cereus compared with the other tested bacteria. Antifungal potential of aqueous extract of Moringa leaves (100 mg/ml.) showed that, Moringa aqueous extract exhibited variable antifungal activity ranged from high (18 ± 0.54 mm), moderate (13.2 ± 0.58 mm) and low (6.6 ± 0.47 mm) . In the presence of the total extract, the inhibition zones diameter against A. niger, A. flavus, P. italicum, F. oxysporum, R. stolonifer Alternaria sp., C. albicans, C. parapsilosis were 15.2 ± 0.52 mm, 12.4 ± 0.55 mm, 10.5 ± 0.26 mm, 9.4 ± 0.71 mm, 13.2 ± 0.58 mm, 6.6 ± 0.47 mm, 12 ± 0.44 mm and 18 ± 0.54 mm respectively. The application of The Moringa leaves aqueous extract can be used as inhibitor of Aspergillus niger; A. flavus, Alternaria spp., Fusarium spp. R. stolonifer and Penicillium sp.; Candida. albicans; C. glabrata and C. Tropicalis. As regards to fungi, high potency extract displayed zones of inhibition of P10 mm, moderate potent extracts gave zones of inhibition between 10- and 9-mm.
