The Impact of Traditional Institutions on Conflict Resolution in Niger State:a Case Study of Kontagora Emirate Council

ABSTRACTThe research work examined the role of impact traditional institution on conflict in Niger State. A study of Kontagora Emirate Council it is observed that Kontagora has been recently for ethno-religious and political violence. In fact violence or crises has been and outcome of electoral contest in Kontagora Emirate Council of Niger State It is against this background that the researcher is set to interrogate the place of the impact Traditional institution on conflict resolution. This becomes necessary, especially, given the large amount government spend in the maintenance of such office it is therefore the concern of the researcher to determine the achievement of the traditional rulers in conflict management that labara government continued spending on the traditional institutions. And particularly how the Kontagora Emirate can fare well. To do this, the researcher developed ten (10) questions and this questions were administrated in form of questionnaire to (100) respondents were randomly selected as a sample of population under study. Primary and secondary sources were used as a method of data collection while tables and sample percentage were used in organizing and presenting the data collected. The data analysis revealed that the impact of traditional institution Kontagora Emirate Council of Niger State has been effective and had some records of achievement in conflict resolution in Niger State. It is the conviction of this research that traditional institutions should be supported and allowed to be actively involved in the process of conflict resolution. The researcher therefore, suggested that for traditional institutions to function effectively the government should create a clear and constitutionally specified role of them with transparent. Chanisms for their operation and sacking or bring to book erring ones. By this the nation will start experiencing place, oneness, security national unity, development and progress for the betterment of all Nigeria.
