Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research attempts to identify the roles of Parent Teachers association in the development of schools in Kaduna South Local Government Area. The study was conducted to study the positive role of P.T.A. in multi-aspects schools as educational institutions; social aspects, academic, educational, economic and physical structure of schools. The problems of the study, objectives and research questions were explicitly identified to guide the study. Sampling and subjects of the study were randomly selected, a total number of two primary schools in the area of the study were selected and out of two thousand estimated population of parents and teachers, three hundred and twenty seven (327) were selected.
The selection was made based on Morgan and Kreycie (1973) formulae for selecting sample size. The instrument used for data collection was Questionnaire due to its content validity. The collected data via questionnaire instrument were analysed using simple descriptive statistical method. The analysis was done to provide answers to the stated research questions of the study. However, finding of the study revealed that the role of P.T.A in the development of schools in the area of study was quite restrictive, as the only identified contribution was in the area of physical development, which means that other areas, such as academic, social, moral, economic e.t.c. were neglected. The implication of this finding is that, P.T.A's role in the development of schools is not adequately satisfactory, insufficient and in-effective. Meanwhile, based on the findings of this study, recommendations were provided, especially on the dare need to diversify P.T.A's roles to reflect on all aspects of schools development.
