Censorship Andcollection Development Policy in College of Health Technology Calabar, Cross River State Nigeria

Abstract
The study investigated censorship and collection development policy in the College of Health Technology, Library, Calabar. The study raised three research objectives and three research questions to guide the study. The study adopted survey research design. The census approach was used for the study to collect a total fifteen(15) staff in the College of Health Technology Library, the questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage. The findings of the study revealed that the librarians have a positive perception of the role of collection development policy (cdp) in controlling censorship. The findings also revealed a strong emphasis on regular upgrading, evaluation, and user education, and also areas for improvement, such as clarifying selection guidelines and handling challenges to materials. Lastly, the findings of the study revealed that, irregular upgrading, poor management attitude, non-librarian staff, cdp silence on censorship, and poor funding are significant factors affecting the effectiveness of the Collection Development Policy in controlling censorship. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that, the library administrators should ensure regularly review and updating the Collection Development Policy (CDP) to reflect changing community need and values, provide clear guidelines and criteria for selecting and evaluating materials, and ensure adequate funding and resources for collection development.
