Impact of Teaching Practices on the Productivity of Teachers in Junior Secondary Schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State

Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study was carried out to examine the impact of teaching practices on the productivityof teachers in Junior Secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of EdoState. The correlational survey design was adopted for the study, The population of thisstudy will cover all the principals and teachers in the sixteen public secondary schools (16)in Esan West local Government with a total of three hundred and two (302) teachers in allthe public secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area in Edo State. A sampleof three hundred and two (302) teachers representing 100% was usd for the study. The datacollected was analyzed using the mean and standard deviation to answer the researchquestions. While the hypothesis were tested using the Pearson Product Moment CorrelationCo-efficient statistical method. The findings from the study among others revealed that:perception of teachers on effectiveness of teaching practice in Junior Secondary schools inEsan West Local Government Area were relatively positive; elass room management inJunior Secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of teachers was relativelyeffective; significant relationship exist between teaching practice and the productivity ofteachers in Junior Secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area and there wereseveral problems encountered by teachers during teaching practice in Junior Secondaryschools in Esan West Local Government Area. Based on the findings of the study, it wasc o m m e n d e d a m o n g o t h e r s t h a t e d u c a t o r s s h o u l d b e c o n s t a n t l y e m p o w e r e d t h r o u go r k s h o p s in v o c a t i o n a l b u s i n e s s e d u c a t i o n p r o g r a m m e in t e r t i a r y i n s t i t u t i o n s , to w o reffectively in leading and guiding trainee teachers and effective training and mentoringshould be given to teachers as to enable them acquire the skills needed for teaching practice.
