Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research work titled 'Contribution Of Broadcast Media In Creating Awareness
On The Usage Of Contraceptives Among Rural Women Of Karu Local Government,
Nasarawa State' aimed to determine the level of Contraceptive usage among Rural
women in Karu Local Government Area Nasarawa State and to determine the level
of awareness on Contraceptive usage among Rural women in Karu Local
Government Area Nasarawa State. The Theory Of Planned Behavior used to guide
the study. This study is descriptive in nature; therefore, the researcher adopted
qualitative survey method. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane's
formula. Data were gathered through the use of questionnaire from the study area.
Three hundred and Ninety-Nine (399) copies of questionnaire were distributed and
Three hundred (300) copies were collected properly filled while tables were used in
the presentation and analysis of data. Descriptive statistic was used to analyze the
data collected from the respondents to generate frequencies and percentages. As a
result of the analysis, it was discovered that the Broadcast Media through the use of
television, radio newspapers, magazine is an important aspect of National
development apart from been just a medium where information on the usage of
contraception but also enlighten woman on the importance of family planning. It
was thereafter recommended that new wave of media and interpersonal campaigns
on family planning and contraceptive use which will target how a proportionate
number of women would move their positive attitudes to contraceptives to the
desired stage of actual usage should be produced by media houses, the Ministry of
Health, and NGOs working on public health and family planning in Nigeria.
